Baby Bottle Options for Your Little One: Expert Picks from a Postpartum Doula

As a postpartum doula, I know firsthand how important it is to choose baby gear that supports your feeding goals, is safe for your baby, and fits your family’s values and lifestyle. If you’re navigating the world of baby bottles, you’re not alone — there are so many options out there!

Today, I’m sharing three wonderful bottle brands that I love recommending to families: Gulicola, Pigeon, and Chico (glass + plastic combo). Each has unique benefits depending on your needs — whether you prioritize eco-friendly materials, ease of cleaning, or a happy latch for breastfed babies.

🥇 Gulicola Bottles — Gentle & Eco-Conscious

Why I recommend them:

  • Gulicola bottles are designed with minimalist, non-toxic materials — perfect for families seeking an eco-friendly bottle choice.

  • They often feature wide necks and soft silicone nipples that mimic breastfeeding, which can help with baby transitioning between breast and bottle.

  • Easy to take apart and clean completely — a huge plus for busy parents.

Whether you’re exclusively bottle feeding or combining breastfeeding with bottle feeds, Gulicola bottles are a great choice for sensitive little tummies and earth-minded families.

🍼 Pigeon Bottles — Comfortable & Baby-Centered

Why I love Pigeon:

  • Pigeon has a strong reputation for baby-centered design, especially for newborns and early feeders.

  • Their nipples are shaped to support a natural latch, which may help reduce nipple confusion for breastfed babies.

  • Many parents find Pigeon bottles easy for newborns to coordinate sucking and swallowing — important in those first weeks.

Pigeon is a trusted choice if you’re looking for bottles that feel close to the breastfeeding experience.

♻️ Chicco Glass + Plastic Combo — Versatility Meets Practicality

Why this combo stands out:

  • The Chicco bottle offers glass on the inside and plastic on the outside for the best of both worlds especially if daycare requires plastic bottles.

  • Glass bottles are fantastic if you want the purest, chemical-free feeding experience (no microplastics, easy to sanitize).

  • Plastic bottles are lighter and great for on-the-go feeds, daycare, or travel.

For eco-conscious families who also want convenience and versatility, the glass + plastic combo is a smart investment.

🧡 Tips for Choosing the Right Bottle

Start with a few different nipple shapes and flow levels — newborns may need slower flows; older babies may prefer faster ones. Especially if you are breastfeeding, you want to choose the flow option that allows baby to eat for about 15 minutes. If your baby is fussy and crying while feeding and taking longer than 15 minutes, it is likely time to move up to the next size. Formula fed babies gain the benefits of slower paced eating as well, so they are less likely to overeat and spit up.

Prioritize easy cleaning — wide-neck bottles often make washing simpler (and quicker!).

Think about your lifestyle — if you travel often, lightweight bottles may be worth it. If you’re at home with plenty of time, glass bottles might feel more sustainable to you.

Watch your baby’s cues — happy, calm feeding is the best indicator you’ve found a good match!
